From utility bills to reports in three steps

  1. 1

    Enter your bills

Electricity and gas bills: billing period, kWh, meter number (MPAN/MPRN), actual or estimated read. Checked in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

    We check and calculate

Missing months, duplicates, estimated reads and meter mismatches are flagged. kWh × DESNZ 2024 factor ÷ 1,000 = tCO₂e, with every step shown.

  3. 3

    You get your reports

VSME B3 schedule, SECR annex, PPN 006 emissions table and NHS supplier pack — plus an evidence ledger for your accountant.

Audit model

Three lines of defence, from bill to workpaper

Built so a corporate ESG team or external reviewer can follow any number back to the bill it came from. vsmecap prepares data for review; it does not provide assurance.

  1. 01
    Raw bill PDF

Original supplier bill kept as the source file. A SHA-256 hash of the extracted record is stored beside it.

  2. 02
    Extraction engine

Supplier, meter, period, kWh and reading type extracted. Estimated reads, gaps and duplicates are flagged.

  3. 03
    Calculation engine

Deterministic: kWh × versioned DESNZ factor. Same inputs always give the same output and hash.

  4. 04
    Reviewer workpaper

Every figure traceable back to its bill, factor and formula — ready for your reviewer or auditor to check.

Who it's for

About us

Why vsmecap exists

The problem

Large customers, lenders and public buyers increasingly send sustainability questionnaires down their supply chains. Most small businesses have no specialist staff and no budget for consultants, so answers end up guessed, copied or left blank — and contracts are put at risk.

Our mission

Make voluntary sustainability data verifiable and accessible to every UK small business.

Carbon figures shouldn't need a science degree or a large advisory invoice — just your own bills, published government factors and arithmetic anyone can re-check.

Operating principles

01

Deterministic over estimated

If a figure isn't backed by a real bill and official UK government conversion factors, it's a guess — and we label it as one.

02

Your data stays yours

Bill figures and meter numbers are processed in your browser. We don't store them.

03

Built for the SME operator

No consulting jargon, no opaque ESG scores. Clear, reproducible workpapers you can hand to a customer or reviewer.

04

Honest about what we are

Data preparation and voluntary reporting readiness — not external assurance, audit, certification or legal advice.

Founder

Salil Patankar

Founder · London

vsmecap started from a simple observation: the businesses being asked for sustainability evidence are the ones least equipped to produce it. The aim is practical tooling that turns everyday utility bills into figures a customer or reviewer can trace back to source — without adding paperwork.
